Favorite charities

Hello everyone!

Here are some of my favorite charities and organizations. We can all make a difference in this world.

Cancer has no boundaries to sex, age, class in society or location. I support this charity because my mom has stage 4 breast cancer. She has been dealing with remission of the disease for about 10 years now. It not only affects her physically and emotionally, but the family as well. Let’s hope they will find a cure for this horrible disease very soon.

Blogger’s Note: Sadly, my mother passed away on Thanksgiving Day November 28, 2013 at 11:30 AM. I was there by her bedside and was able to tell her that I loved her. She said she loved me too. I will continue to support this cause and hope there is a cure in the future for others, so that their families may continue to share their lives with their loved ones.

                                                                     Motivation India

Wheelchairs & scooters have been part of my life in one way or another. When I had surgery as a 5 year old and had casts on both legs (ankle surgery), I was in a wheelchair for some time. I know how and what it feels like moving oneself around and having to rely on someone to push you from behind. You are at their mercy to get place places if you can’t push yourself. My biological mother used a wheelchair after her strokes. My adoptive mother used a scooter the last years of her life due to falling and hurting her hip. I’ve worked with clients who used wheelchairs and I know all to well how hard it can be without having a support system in place to provide independence and freedom for those using wheelchairs.

I came across this wonderful organization in India as I was helping someone who needed help for her friend. They do a wonderful job in providing wheelchairs for those that need them, having workshops, empowering, helping with skills & improving lives through their organization. Please check out their website and donate if you can. It will make a huge difference in someone’s life. They also have a YouTube channel that provides more information about what they do.

THE WATER PROJECT

I remember when I was a child living in the Amazon, people would come in and help the community install a well and educate the Indians about water safety and how to install water pipes. I’ll never forget that and how important clean water was instilled in my little mind back then. I support clean water education and needs for communities from around the world who need it.

One of my favorite charities that promotes new beginnings through surgery for children who are born with cleft lips and palettes from around the world. Doctors, nurses, speech and occupational therapists volunteer their time to help children who would otherwise never have the chance to afford corrective surgery, get surgery from the surgeons. I love this charity. I love children and to see them smile with such pride, just makes my heart melt.

MEALS ON WHEELS

Meals on Wheels is a great organization that helps vulnerable seniors at home, providing them with healthy meals delivered to their homes, giving them social interaction (sometimes the volunteers are the only people they may see all day so this gives them something to look forward to) and a steady healthy diet.

I’ll never forget visiting my first island. It was always a dream of mine to visit a real island that I saw in movies. Brazil has islands, but that is different. One year on our way to the States, my mom & friends from Brazil took a trip to Bonaire. Bonaire is a gorgeous island off the coast of Venezuela. We stayed at a tiny home next to the ocean with only 12 feet from our back door to the water. The space in between the back door and the ocean was made up of tiny pebbles. We then had a little pier we could jump off of or snorkel off of. One day I snorkeled on my own and I entered the magical world of the fishes. What I saw was colorful corals, beautiful friendly fish who swam up to me curious. The sun was shining and casting ballet like sun rays deep into the bottom of the beach. The water was still, there were no waves so I had a peaceful journey just exploring, getting lost with what I saw. I felt like I was in an aquarium. I was only 8 years old and this is something I will never forget. The charity Coral.org loves the sea life and wants to continue bringing awareness to the world in how the environment is affecting our corals and the sea life in it. To learn more about their mission & cause, please go to Coral.org and check out their website. This charity is close to my heart as I love my ocean and want to save it before it’s too late.

I love children and I’m thankful for a children’s hospital that is able to treat children from all over the world at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Any chance I get, I donate to them.

    1. I’m curious…what do you mean? Lol. My layout? My new layout is so simple yet I’ll have to pay for it after my 14 day free trial. My Buena layout was free for years, but I hated that no one could see the charities that are dear to my heart. My previous background wallpaper diminished the links. :/

        1. Aww, really?! Charities are important to me. I’d rather have readers click on that link before reading my posts. I promised myself that if I ever won millions or earned millions, those charities would get first dibs. Thank you for your compliment!
